Southampton opened up their Europa League campaign with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Sparta Prague on Thursday.

Charlie Austin gave Saints the lead after just five minutes from the spot after Costa Nhamoinesu was penalised for handling inside the penalty area.

The striker added a second minutes later when he headed home Cuco Martina’s cross from the right-hand side.

And Jay Rodriguez coolly slotted home from Shane Long’s pull back late on as Claude Puel secured his first win in charge of Southampton.
