“Alex was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer in 2024,” Stanley Ontop finally broke his silence over the tragic death of Alex Ekubo

Popular Nollywood actor and filmmaker Alex Ekubo has reportedly died at the age of 40 after allegedly battling stage 4 liver cancer.

The development was revealed by Nollywood actor and filmmaker Stanley Ajemba, popularly known as Stanley Ontop, in a statement shared on Instagram on Tuesday evening.

According to Stanley, Alex Ekubo had been secretly battling liver cancer since 2024 and had undergone treatment, including a liver transplant, in an effort to recover.

He explained that the actor briefly returned to work after the transplant but later developed complications when the transplanted liver reportedly failed again.

Stanley stated that Alex’s health condition deteriorated in recent weeks before he eventually passed away.

He also disclosed that the late actor’s remains had been deposited in the morgue, while appealing to the public to avoid spreading unverified reports about the cause of his illness.

“Alex was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer in 2024. After undergoing treatment and a liver transplant, he briefly returned to work. Unfortunately, the liver failed again and complications arose, and his condition deteriorated until his passing,” he wrote.

He further urged fans and members of the public to respect the privacy of the actor’s family during the difficult period.
