The Spaniard found the back of the net three times in the space of 47 minutes in a dominant display from Arsene Wenger’s men.
Alex Iwobi added a fourth for Arsenal before Seydou Doumbia pulled one back for Basel.
Paris Saint-Germain were held to a 2-2 draw by Ludogorets in the other Group A clash on the night, meaning Arsenal pipped them to first place in their pool.
