PSG shook up the world by beating Barcelona 4-0 in the Champions League last week. It wasn’t just the fact that they beat them, but the manner in which they put the Catalans to the sword that so impressed.
Quite simply, Barcelona were outplayed and outfought by the Parisians for 90 minutes, as Verratti, Rabiot, Di Maria, Cavani and co ran riot at the Parc des Princes.
Marco Verratti was particularly impressive; he ran the show from midfield, and set up Julian Draxler for the second goal.
And perhaps most tellingly, Verratti got the better of Andres Iniesta – arguably the world’s best midfielder over the past 10 years (albeit, the Spaniard had only returned from injury).
Iniesta and Matuidi speak about Verratti
And the diminutive Italian defender was the subject of a very interesting little conversation between Matuidi and Iniesta during the game.
Speaking to French radio station France Bleu, Matuidi revealed the details of their conversation:
‘When Verratti was on the ground after getting injured, I told Iniesta that he is his heir.
And he replied, ”Yes, I think so too.”
